A second successive defeat for the Reserves, at Eastleigh, was tempered somewhat by the magnificent facilities provided by the home club. Eastleigh fielded a very strong side, containing three first teamers coming back from injury, and they came out on top 4-2 after a very absorbing game.

The Woods’ team (average age 18) put in a much improved performance and, but for a couple of individual errors, might have taken something from this match.

Max Moore who has been awaiting his chance,  fell foul to injury within two minutes of the start and had to be replaced by Danny Briggs. Eastleigh were gifted two first half goals and went in at half time 2-0 up.

Woods’ injury jinx continued after the restart, when they lost the influential Jamie Lindsay on the hour, and five minutes later debutant Callum McCarroll broke his foot in a tackle, leaving the Woods with ten men.

However Douglas Kisuule converted a penalty to give the Woods heart on 66 minutes, but the ten men struggled to hold Eastleigh, who regained their two goal advantage on 70 minutes.

The Woods kept going, and Scott Purdue brought them right back into the game on 75 minutes with a scorching drive from fully 25 yards. With Woods looking for the equaliser, it was Eastleigh that netted, in the 93rd minute, to complete the scoring.

Report: ALLAN GREEN.
